Red face Newb Question :|

I just picked up the demo to this game, havent got to try it yet. It sounds fantastic but i have one question.

I know you pick a Primary and Secondary class, but can they be the same? such as a Warrior/Warrior and if you can, is there any bonuses to doing so?

While im here, whats your thoughts on a Mesmer/Elementalist charactor?

thanks all

K

you can not have the same primary and secondary. some people will try to play "pure" characters by only using one profession's skills, but they still have to have a secondary even if they do not use it.

As Duality said, you have to have a different secondary, and whether or not you actually use the skills from your secondary is entirely up to you. As of now, there is no bonus or penalty for trying to play a "pure" primary only char. They can be just as good as any other char as well.

On a related note, you can play with only the secondary skills of your char if you want while completely ignoring your primary profession. There are different reasons to do this, like for the look of the char, picking armor different than the class you want to play, or to take advantage of that classes special primary attribute but none of the skills for that class (each class has a special attribute that you can only use if that is your primary class).

Has the ability to enter the Academy without a secondary proffession been removed? While it seems like a bug, I see no reason to force folks who don't want a secondary proffession to take one. I'm not talking about whether it is a wise decision or not, just what people might like to do.

That would be quite a powerful offensive built. Have you thought about which line of elemental skills you might want to use?

By 'pure', I take it you mean a character with just a single profession. I would imagine it would be ok, if built well. However, with a secondary profession, you could have access to a lot of spells that could support your main profession.

With the mesmer, try and use DoT (damage over time) spells, so that those will still be in effect while you cast ele spells, etc. Also, you'll start out with Conjure Phantasm and I highly recommend using it.

Here's a guide from this site on Ranger/Air Ele.

We aren't allowed to talk about any changes that have been made since the last BWE ended. This includes bug fixes, skills changes, game features added, or anything else (unless ANet chooses to make it public, like when Gaile announced the guild cap is now at 100). Sorry

since the secondary does not have any effect on your appearance and you dont have to put a single point into its atributes and you dont have to collect skills for it or give up a slot of your 8

what is the complaint?

it only gives you the flexibility if you want it

possible benefit with NO penalty

be a pure anything except in name

In order to do well in GW an Alpha tester has told me on more than one speak easy session that the way the game is/has been designed, that it is best played with the primary and secondary professions of your choice. Always look for the two best to fit your style, and then modify to the skills to give you the best advantage in combat.

Initially the game will take you to areas that you choose to adventure in during game play, and during this time the game will give you the choices that you seek. The skills come after you complete quests, in which you also receive experience points to a max level of twenty, for both primary and secondary professions.

The adventure starts when you choose a primary profession at your character build. When in doubt seek the high ground... peace.

Out of Ascalon last BWE I made that mistake twice. I picked two warriors - they were not very effective...then I finally targeted the Warrior - and found to my amazement that they had no secondary...they just missed the boat when picking their secondary. One of the guys was level 11.

I felt really sorry for the guys. They were worthless. SO if you find a guy in the early missions that doesn't have a secondary...yes he is going to suck.

What are you talking about, I don't think you can have two of the same proffession...

I agree that having 2 professions makes things so much more interesting. Like Thundermaine said, pick your two favorite fighting styles and tweak them to suit you.

Nova, I think he meant he played with 2 warriors who both didn't have secondary professions.

Hehe, thanks.
